Thanks Charlie--Everyone expects change as time passes, but reading the account of Apollo 8 made me realize that 1) not everything should change and 2) that our rate of change is out of control. We and our leaders have become like petulant teenagers with Daddy's credit card. No one in their right mind thinks it will end well!

ReplyHi Tammy--What's even scarier is that well-informed Americans are NOT voting! Apparently, we have lost sight of how much power we the people hold in our vote. When I read that 50% of Evangelical Christians are not even registered to vote, I realized that the church has fallen a long way from its courageous and primary role in the founding of this great country. Pastors, today, seem to be more afraid of losing their tax-exempt status than they are of losing their country! And, the ironic truth about the law that strikes fear into pastor's hearts is that since 1954, when it was passed, no one has ever been prosecuted under it! Because it is unconstitutional and prosecuting someone with it would cause the law to be scrutinized, which would strike it down as unconstitutional.

ReplyHi Tammy--It is true that OWS appears to have multiple messages, but if listen carefully, they all have in common blaming capitalism and liberty for any and all problems. It is the exact opposite of the old addage, "When the going gets tough, the tough get going." The solution to America's problems is not changing the system, it is discovering that our Founding Fathers designed a wonderful system and that we the people, in the last hundred years, have allowed evil men to destroy it.

Hi Sharon,
I'm hoping that OWS will "spur a different kind of innovation." While OWS provides a preview of what America would look like under 4 more years of Democratic Party leadership (chaos!) here's hoping that spurs a revival of renewed interest in maintaining our democratic Republic, especially Voting in 2012! -

Hi Charlie,
Thanks for your kind words. Just as of this morning, there is good news about OWS:
"...New polling data is out that shows support for the "Occupy Wall Street" mobs is plunging. A few weeks ago liberal pundits on MSNBC were cracking open champagne bottles celebrating polls that showed 54% of Americans supported the "Occupy Wall Street" mobs. But then, as we and others worked to expose the radical leftist bent and shameful conduct of the mobs, another poll showed support had fallen to just 37%. A brand new CNN poll released yesterday shows that the support for the mobs has now collapsed to just 32%. Only a majority of Democrats now hold a favorable view of the "Occupy Wall Street" movement." -

ReplyHi Tammy,
Your delightful prescription reminds me of my own thoughts when each of my five kids reached teenage. However, your descriptions and revelations of your feelings are far more gracious than mine were.
A time-honored Christian solution, that has fallen out of vogue, is to start planning for teenage when the kids are about six months old. Sadly, for my wife and I, we didn't become Christians until I was 48, and our kids were grown. It was only then that I began to learn from Scripture the precious truths that I believe would have made all the difference to our teenagers. Happily, three of the five, so far, have followed their parents into the baptismal waters and their lives have been transformed. -
On the Blog Post Why Don't Christians Vote?

Tammy, The statistic applied to Evangelical Christians, which would not include Roman Catholics. The most worrisome part of the statistic is the 50% that are not even registered. They, apparently, feel no sense of responsibility to participate in the self-governing process. Something has convinced them that the process isn't worth supporting, and I think that "something" is churches that teach a version of God's Sovereignty that doesn't need man to play any role.

Amen Tammy! Let's be salt and light to our brothers and sisters who don't vote, before we lose the right to do so.
