Resignation effective as of noon today.
Walton County officials have confirmed that Richard Jenkins resigned his position as the new Walton County Coroner today. Jenkins, who beat incumbent coroner Joseph Page in a run off election in August, served only 2 days in the office. Probate Judge Bruce Wright is handling the appointment of an interim coroner. We will update this as information is made available.

Authorities say two Walton County men Friday morning inadvertently flagged down a patrol car after leading deputies on a nearly three-hour foot chase in the area of Lane Creek and Ga. Highway 53 in Oconee County.

A late night single-car crash in Oconee County led to the early morning arrest of two Walton County men. Around 11 p.m. Thursday, a deputy was driving along Ga. Highway 53 toward US Highway 78 when radar indicated a green Honda Accord coming in his direction was traveling at 101mph, according to a news release from the Oconee County Sheriff's Office. The car, occupied by two men, sped past the deputy. He turned around to stop it, but found it had crashed at the intersection of Lane Creek Road and Ga Highway 53 and the men had fled the scene, the news release stated. UPDATE at 12:45 a.m. This Levi's Call has been canceled. The 3-year-old was located. The Walton County Sheriffs' Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation have issued a Levi's Call and are looking for a Gray 1993 Toyota Camry TAG number BQW9549 or a 1990 Geo Metro tag number BYK4692. On 7/14/2012 at 1:30 pm, Austin Waters, a white, 3-year-old male, wearing a blue t-shirt and blue jeans was last seen at 1605 Hwy 138 Monroe Georgia and is believed to be in extreme danger. Austin was abducted by Bobby Waters a 44-year-old white male and is believed to be traveling Hwy 138 towards Gainesville. Walton County Chief Deputy Sheriff Bruce Wright is the third person to announce their candidacy for the Walton County Probate Court Judge in the Republican Primary on July 31. The other two candidates are attorneys Lori Duff and Sheri Fambrough. Duff was also recently appointed as the associate judge for Loganville. The successful candidate will replace Judge H. Greg Adams who has announced his intention to retire from the position at the end of his current term.
