Police say the incident took place at 1:15 a.m. on Sunday, May 12 in unincorporated Gwinnett near Snellville.
Police believe a man stabbed his girlfriend, then shot himself in the head after an apparent domestic argument early Sunday morning in unincorporated Gwinnett between Snellville and Loganville. The woman, who was stabbed in the back, survived the attack, but the man died, according to a media alert emailed by Gwinnett Police Cpl. Michele Pihera. “The death of the male is being investigated as a suicide. The female is not a suspect in his death,” Pihera reported. Gwinnett Police are looking for a suspect who took an employee hostage, held a knife to her throat, threatened to kill her, and tried to rob the Fresh 2 def store in Mall Corners on Pleasant Hill Road in unincorporated Duluth. The suspect was described by the store owner and the employee as a Hispanic male (5’7,” 120 lbs.) between the ages of 15-20 wearing a hoodie, black pants, a white T-shirt with the word “Obey” defined in red, and black tennis shoes with white bottoms. He also was carrying a black backpack. He has brown eyes and black hair faded on the sides leaving about two inches on top with gel. Gwinnett County Police report that a 22-year-old woman who was seriously injured in a wreck that occurred on Highway 78 at Hoke O'Kelly Road in Loganville on Feb. 17 will likely face driving under the influence charges. Cpl. Ed Ritter, public information officer for the GCPD, said charges of DUI and failure to yield are pending against the Lawrenceville woman. According to the incident report, Jasmine M. White, 22, was travelling eastbound on Highway 78 and attempted to turn left onto Hoke O'Kelly Mill Road. She was struck by a pickup truck truck traveling westbound on Highway 78. The Gwinnett County Police Accident Investigation Unit is currently investigating a serious injury accident that occurred at Hwy 78 at Hoke O'Kelly Mill Road at 8:48 p.m. Sunday evening, according to GCPD spokesman Sgt. Brian Doan. Doan said early investigations show that a passenger car was travelling on Highway 78 eastbound and attempted to turn left onto Hoke O'Kelly Mill Road. This car was hit by a pick up truck traveling westbound on Highway 78. The pick up truck then struck a second passenger car waiting to turn onto Highway 78 from Hoke O'Kelly Mill Road. Twenty seven officers from various police departments trained in a week-long class that covered shooting reconstruction, gunshot residue and more.
This week, law enforcement officers trained at the Gwinnett County Police Department to strengthen their crime investigation skills through a shooting reconstruction course. The course was part of the kickoff for the Forensic Training Source, a new non-profit organization based in Cumming that is dedicated to law enforcement training nationwide. The week-long class covered a number of scenarios including gunshot residue, identifying bullet marks, motor vehicles as a target surface and report writing. FTS owner Nathan Lefebvre said author Patricia Cornwell has been a tremendous help to the first group of trainees; known for her Kay Scarpetta crime novels, Cornwell donated scholarships to all 27 participants in the class. Saturday morning attack occurred in the shopping center's parking lot, and police are looking for two suspects.
Gwinnett County Police are looking for two suspects who shot a man and robbed another outside a Stone Mountain Walmart this morning around 2:50 a.m. The suspects, both black males, were armed with a semi-automatic handgun, possibly a .40 calibre Glock, according to a police statement. They approached two separate shoppers in the parking lot, shooting one, a 35-year-old male, in the leg when "he did not understand their demands and continued to walk towards the store," the report said. The other victim, a 20-year-old-male, handed over his keys, wallet and cell phone. The suspects took his car and left the scene. John Puckett, of 2592 Bermuda Drive, Loganville, was arrested on Nov. 29, 2012 and faces a slew of charges that stem from an incident on June 12, 2012 when he was involved in a motorcycle accident in Gwinnett County. Officers responding to the scene reported that Puckett told police he didn’t want to report the accident. He seemed more concerned with trying to get his motorcycle to start and leave. According to the Gwinnett County Police report, when police asked why the VIN didn’t match and there appeared to be no insurance on record, Puckett managed to get the motor fired up and fled. Highway 20 in Grayson was shut down in both directions early Friday following a head-on collision involving a Gwinnett County police vehicle and another vehicle. Cpl. Ed Ritter, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Police Department said both drivers were transported to a hospital with non life threatening injuries. "Officer was not at fault. Other driver is facing traffic charges," Ritter said.
