The meeting took place at Grayson High School on May 1 and also shone a light on security fears in the Unincorporated Gwinnett area between Loganville and Snellville along Temple Johnson Road.
Last week’s town hall meeting with the Board of Commissioners in Grayson focused on the Centerville area of Gwinnett County, which includes much of the area between Snellville city limits and Lithonia. The area, represented by Commissioner Tommy Hunter, is an unincorporated area of Gwinnett County. Hunter replaced Mike Beaudreau in the most recent elections and told the crowd he would do “as much good as humanly possible.” “It’s going to take each one of you to decide where this county’s going to go,” he added. Judging by comments from the large crowd gathered in the Grayson High School auditorium, the general consensus seemed to be that the Highway 124 corridor that stretches from Snellville to Lithonia needs some major upgrades. …

Gwinnett County District 3 will have a new commissioner in January. Challenger Tommy Hunter narrowly defeated incumbent Commissioner Mike Beaudreau in the Aug. 21 Runoff Election. Although it was possible the absentee ballots could technically make a difference, Beaudreau gave a concession speech at Summit Chase County Club in Snellville. He told supporters he was looking forward to spending time with his family. He said, however, he was still a District 3 resident and would be holding Hunter accountable. Tommy Hunter, candidate for the Gwinnett County District 3 commission seat, believes government has lost sight of who it represents.
Tommy Hunter says he is ready to change the culture of Gwinnett County government if elected to represent District 3 on the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners. “I’m running for the Gwinnett County Commission because over the years that I have been involved in politics and decision making in Gwinnett County, I get the impression that government has slowly and steadily got away from understanding who it works for,” he said. Hunter, who currently represents District 4 on the Gwinnett County Planning Commission, said he has seen firsthand how government tends to get disconnected from what is really happening. “We’ve got budgets that we have to live by. When we get into a tight situation, we’re not able to go out here and tell our neighbors…

After being termed out of his position as mayor of Snellville in November, Jerry Oberholzter confirmed that he will be seeking the Gwinnett County District 3 Commission seat in 2012. "I did stand up at the Republican Breakfast last week and let them know that I would be running for this office and I've formed a committee and prepared the paperwork," Oberholzer said. "I will be making a formal announcement next week." Oberholzer served on the Snellville City Council for four years before serving two terms as mayor of the city. Under Snellville's City Charter, a mayor can only serve two terms. Incumbent District 3 Commissioner Mike Beaudreau announced Friday that he will be seeking reelection and Mike Korom of Dacula also has announced a bid…

I voted for Tommy to see if he can let me have a few pet chickens at my home for fresh eggs. If he can allow us that freedom then I will vote for him every time. I can't imagine it is so much worse than my neighbors German shepherds that bark all day and crap all over the yard. Chickens are way cleaner and I get fresh eggs.   more ›
