UPDATE: AS AT 6:10 p.m. there was no update on the manhunt. An attempted armed robbery in Monroe was thwarted by members of law enforcement Tuesday night. A suspect is in custody.
UPDATE: A Georgia State Patrol spokesman said that the robbery attempt took place in the Tractor Supply Parking lot. GSP TFC John Taylor overheard a lookout placed by Monroe Police Department for the suspect. He was in the immediate area and saw a suspect fitting the description about a minute after hearing the lookout. The suspect was at the McDonald's BP gas station at Highway 138. "John arrested the suspect without incident and turned him over to Monroe Police," GSP reported. "Monroe PD will be carrying charges in the case." Gwinnett County Police officers are releasing additional details about a Jan. 12 attack in the parking lot of the Rockbridge Road Walmart. In a press release today, police said that the incident was actually two separate incidents -- a robbery and a shooting, which happened about 2:50 a.m. at the Walmart located at 1825 Rockbridge Road in Stone Mountain. In the first incident, a 20-year-old victim arrived at the Walmart about 2:50 a.m., pulling into a parking space near the main entrance to the store. Gwinnett Police say three men robbed a Wells Fargo bank in Lawrenceville, Ga. They have arrested one suspect and are still looking for two others.
One suspect in an armed robbery of a Wells Fargo bank in Lawrenceville last month is now in police custody. However, Gwinnett County Police are still looking for two potential accomplices in the crime. On Friday, December 28th, two black males wearing masks walked into the Wells Fargo bank at 3065 Lawrenceville Highway just before 9:30am. This branch is located in the parking lot of the Walmart Neighborhood Market. The two men inside the bank have been identified by GCPD as 26 year old Jamar Terrell of 2769 Herrington Woods Road, Lawrenceville and 24 year old Marcus “Bankhead” Rutledge. Snellville Police Chief Roy Whitehead, along with FBI Special Agent in Charge (SAC) Mark F. Giuliano and Dekalb County Interim Police Chief Lisa A. Gassner, are asking for the public's help in identifying and apprehending the suspect responsible for four armed bank robberies that occurred within the last five weeks in Lithonia and Snellville. At 11:15 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 3, a single black male entered a branch of Suntrust Bank located inside the Publix at 1905 Scenic Highway and announced he was robbing the bank. Gwinnett County Police responded to a report of an armed robbery at Grayson Manor Drive in Loganville on Aug. 11, 2012. The victims reported that while they were on their way to the pool in their subdivision, they were approached by Michael Paul,16, who asked for the phone number of a family member of one of the victims. When he didn’t get an answer, he left. However, he reportedly returned a few minutes later with another juvenile, Rovontis Smith, 16, of Loganville. According to the incident report, Paul pulled out a black semi-automatic handgun and struck one of the victims in the face. Surveillance images of a suspect wanted in connection with the Nov. 11 armed robbery of the BP gas station on Hamilton Mill Road in Dacula have been released. The suspect is described as a white male, age 19 to 25 years old and approximately 5-foot-10 to 6-foot-1 tall and weighing around 170 to 190 pounds. According to a press release from the Gwinnett County Police Department, the suspect had dirty or greasy hands that were described as "like a mechanic's." Anyone with information as to the identity or possible whereabouts of the suspect is asked to contact the GCPD Robbery Unit detectives at 770-513-5300. One of the three suspects was acquitted of charges, a second was sentenced last week and the third suspect in the 2011 robbery is scheduled to stand trial at the end of the month.
The shift manager of the Loganville McDonald’s charged in a 2011 armed robbery at the restaurant is scheduled to go on trial at the end of the month. Jacqueline Ward Edwards, 42, of Monroe, was considered the inside person in the armed robbery that resulted in the theft of $3,719.80 from the restaurant. Two other people also were arrested in connection with the robbery. An employee of Taco Bell in Loganville, Ga. was robbed Tuesday morning as he was leaving the restaurant to make a bank deposit, according to members of the Loganville Police Department. "The victim didn't see the gun, but said he felt it pressed up against him when he was accosted by the perpetrator," said Lt. Mike Westbrooks of the LPD. Walton County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Nicholas Garner, 24, of Gum Creek Church Road, Christopher Garner, 39, of 5370 Highway 20, Lot 14, Loganville and David Autry, 28, of 2680 Leone Ave., Loganville, were arrested and charged in an armed robbery in Monroe Monday.
