Propeller CEO Says Commercialization Could Be Beneficial

Brett Smith said expansion of Briscoe Field could be good for residents in Lawrenceville and Dacula.

In a press conference Monday, CEO of Propeller Airports Brett Smith urged the Gwinnett Board of Commissioners to delay the vote on Briscoe Field in Lawrenceville. Smith wants commissioners to wait to fill the vacancy in District 1 after Shirley Lasseter resigned last week after pleading guilty to federal bribery charges. The vote is scheduled Tuesday, June 5. "People in Dacula and Lawrenceville have more to gain from this than anybody," said Smith. Watch the video to see what Smith said about how commercializing the airport can benefit residents living near the airport. In a press release Monday, anti-expansion group Citizens for a Better Gwinnett called Smith's press conference "an admission that they know they're going to lose." Patch is…

Please refer to the link below Ned. It just wont fiscally "fly" and now we have all the reports we need going forward. The numbers aren't NIMBYS but appraisals from outside firms paid well to offer independent evaluation and their experience is much greater than the 4 years claimed by Propeller..   more ›

Airport Expert's Report Confirms Briscoe Field Viability

Debate continues on the pros and cons of privatizing Briscoe Field.

Kinton Aviation Consulting, a leading consulting firm to the aviation industry, released a report that should assist the Gwinnett County Citizens Committee in determining how to move Briscoe Airport forward. The report identified key factors that point to success, should the redevelopment and subsequent addition of passenger service be permitted at the County airport, including gate constraints at Hartsfield International, potential ease of use and navigation of a smaller facility, convenience and increased competition in the Atlanta market providing travelers with more options, according to a press release by Angela Reba, spokeswoman for Propeller Airports. Propeller Airports was the only entity to respond to the county's Request For …

The major issue that Brett Smith continues to deny is....People in the area do not want it... They didn't want it in Barrow County either... When this is all said and done....I hope that the remaining 2 BOC members (lassister is quitting) are run out of office for hoisting this nonsense on the people for such a long time. Its truly disgusting. Brett and his pals are simply going for broke at this…   more ›

Briscoe Advisory Committee Meets for First Time

The Airport Privatization Citizens Review Committee held their first meeting Tuesday afternoon.

It was a crowded conference room Tuesday afternoon as the Airport Privatization Citizens Review Committee held its first ever meeting at Briscoe Field.  The three rows of chairs squeezed in the small room were not enough for all the public who came out to sit in on the meeting. Extra chairs were brought in, and even still, some attendees had to sit just outside the door. The meeting was so the eleven committee members could set up leadership and rules. The committee will have to have a report on the airport ready by the Feb. 15, 2012 deadline. Eric "Tip" Cate of Suwanee was unanimously elected chairman of the committee, and Gary Custar of Snellville was chosen vice-chairman. The committee will evaluate and decide what the best uses of …

This issue is so large in scope it affects the ENTIRE County and a substantial number that don’t care for the 737 commercialization - due to the added liabilities that the county would be on the hook for, are behind you folks. It may seem that you’re alone, but the political guys would be wise NOT to underestimate the real concerns of EVERYONE. Coldwell Banker has a GREAT national ad out with a …   more ›

"He sincerely believes his plan would benefit not just Propeller but Gwinnett County and its citizens as well." Why solicit resumes for a project that doesn't exist yet and you have no standing to do so in anything resembling Good Faith? Is this a reflection of a man of integrity? Actions like this speak far louder than words in a personal conversation - too bad he's not on record as condemning …   more ›
