The Path Projects in Loganville Looking for Summer Volunteers

Make an impression, help change a life this summer!

Melinda Hollandsworth, who with her husband Jim founded what is now known as in Loganville, is looking for volunteer camp counselors to help with camp at the poject sites this summer.

The Path Project is the new name for a project to help guide the lives of children in mobile home parks in the local area. The project currently offers programs at the Gwinnett Estates and Bay Creek Mobile Home communities in Loganville and began work at the Stone Mountain Mobile Home Community in Snellville this year.

"Some of my favorite summer memories are from college days spent working as a camp counselor.  It makes me smile just thinking about games of Capture The Flag, racing down a slip-n-slide and Four Square," Hollandsworth said in the request for volunteers. "We would spend the days laughing with kids, playing games, creating art projects, and enjoying snacks. It didn't matter if it was pouring down rain or 100 degrees we were having fun.  The job wasn't entirely about having fun - every two weeks I got paid an exciting $5.25 an hour and I thought that was a big deal!"

Hollandsworth said she assumed those days were over but now, with her involvement in the Path Project, has found they are very much part of her summer lifestyle.

"It happened when we learned that many of the children who live in Path Project communities won't have opportunities to leave their neighborhoods this summer--at all.  So we bring camp to them," she said.

The Path Project is putting out a call to volunteers who might have a few hours, a few days or even the whole summer to help made a difference in the lives of some local children.

"You WON'T make $5.25 an hour, but you WILL be making a huge investment in the lives of kids," Hollandsworth said.
