Ringing in the Month of February in Shades of Red

Join Club Red on Feb. 3 to help raise awareness of heart disease in women.

In my family, fear doesn’t come in shades of pink – it comes in shades of red. I lost my stepfather to heart disease when he was 52, my mother when she was 69 and my children lost their father to the disease two years ago when he was 59. Heart disease is probably the biggest fear I have. So when Stacy Jones, marketing director for sent me information about next month’s Club Red event, it was a no brainer. This is something that I can certainly get behind.

The physicians at Walton Regional Medical Center and Oconee Heart and Vascular Group and the Monroe Junior Service League have teamed up to bring attention to Women’s heart disease. They are doing this in the local area with their inaugural Red Dress event: Club Red. This will give people in the community to join the physicians at the Monroe Golf and Country Club on Feb. 3 to get the latest information on fighting heart disease, hear a survivor’s story and enjoy a party while raising funds to help the local Healing Angels Clinic in Monroe. Healing Angels which is a private, non-profit clinic providing healthcare for Walton County residents who do not have insurance or other resources to pay for medical care.

“With the dollars raised, Healing Angels Clinic plans to purchase portable blood pressure machines for in-home monitoring to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment, scales for daily weights to monitor for fluid overload as it relates to congestive heart failure, and glucose meters and strips to monitor blood sugars.  We know that diabetes increases the risk of cardiac events,” Sharon Queen, RN and nurse at Healing Angels Clinic, said in a press release. “As women we continue to be underserved when it comes to heart disease and we want more women to know how to protect themselves. Club Red is a chance to share information and raise funds to help those who are in need.”
