Nerf Wars in Loganville Saturday

American Mixed Martial Arts is hosting a Family Fun Day.

There are war games in Loganville today – Nerf War Games - for anyone who wants to participate.

American Mixed Martial Arts Institute in the old Ingles shopping center in Loganville is having a Family Fun Day, which will include Nerf Wars. Also on tap for those who are looking to have a good time is a dunk tank to “Dunk an Instructor,” and a  bounce house provided by Families of Autism/Asperger's Syndrome Care, Educate and Support. It’s also possible the Loganville Police Department SWAT van also will show up.

“Initially this was a fundraiser for Harbour Oaks Montessori School in Snellville,” said Kristin Henshaw, Zumba instructor at A.M.A.I. “We offered our facility for them to distribute their materials and hopefully raise some funds for their PTO but now A.M.A.I. has turned it into more of a Family Fun Day event centered around Father's Day. So we are providing exposure also for F.A.C.E.S. with the bounce house, especially since Autism summer camp is just a few short weeks away.”

Henshaw said Walton Animal Guild (WAG) may be present with their mascot and to distribute materials and Harbour Oaks will have a bake sale as well as temporary tattoos and making of beaded jewelry.

“But the main event" is Nerf Wars,” Henshaw said. “This will be $5/person to enter and after our morning karate and group fitness classes we will form teams. In the meantime, people can enjoy the bounce house, dunk tank, bake sale, etc. before they take morning classes. People bring their Nerf guns, which shoot Nerf darts and can vary in size and style.”

Henshaw said the Black Belts members who have been helping with summer camp would set up the mat to divide into teams.

“It is a 'capture the flag' style tournament. Winning teams will get prizes that A.M.A.I. provides, such as t-shirts, foam nunchuks, etc.,” Henshaw said, adding the game has been a favorite with children attending the A.M.A.I. summer camp. “But now they’ll get prizes.”

The event is open to the public and will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

"We are hoping our students will stay after karate classes with their dads to form Dad/Kid teams or to dunk an instructor for $2/3 tries," Henshaw said, adding the bounce house is free.
