South Gwinnett, Grayson Fall in Weekend Football Games

The Rams played Colquitt County at the Corky Kell Classic while the Comets were against a Florida school at Norcross.

Both South Gwinnett and Grayson lost in their 2013 season opening games Saturday (Aug. 24).

Colquitt County defeated the Rams 6-21 during the Corky Kell Classic at the Georgia Dome. The Comets played at Norcross High, where they lost 21-34 to Lincoln High from Florida.

The South Gwinnett game was televised on ESPN, as part of the network's annual High School Football Kickoff Series. It was the first time that Georgia had teams in the kickoff series, and this year two teams from Gwinnett -- Norcross High and South Gwinnett High -- played. Despite their undefeated season last year, the Blue Devils lost 0-55 against Florida's Booker T. Washington High.

Next Friday (Aug. 30), Grayson is back at home playing against North Gwinnett, while South Gwinnett is on a break until Sept. 6. All other Loganville- and Grayson-area teams kick off their seasons that Friday, too. Loganville High plays its first 2013 game against Monroe Area at home, Walnut Grove is at Woodland in Stockbridge, and Archer plays at Mountain View.
