Red Devils Take Two From the Mustangs

The Loganville Red Devils sweep the Mustangs of Ola and head to the state semi finals.

The magic continued on Tuesday as the continued to win. The Devils took both games of the double header against the Ola Mustangs and earned a trip to the next round of action in the state baseball playoffs. In what looked like a home run derby, the Red Devils pounded out 12 home runs in the the two games. Loganville took game one 13-3 and came back in the night cap and won 15-6.

Game one starter Garrett Ford went four and two thirds innings striking out three mustangs and giving up three runs. Spencer Thomas came in to relieve Ford in the fifth inning and picked off a runner on first base to get the third out and the game  ended with a 13-3 Loganville win.

The story in the first game was the offense of the Red Devils. Kenny Anderson continued to have a hot bat going three for three with a pair of home runs. Christian Miller, Chance Bridges, Clint Frazier and Cody McCance all added homers to give the Red Devils the victory in the first game of the double header.

In game two the Red Devils were the visitors and wasted no time getting the bats going in the top of the first. After singles from Anderson and McCance, third baseman Clint Frazier hit his second home run of the night giving Loganville a 3-0 lead.

The score remained 3-0 until the Mustangs came to the plate in the bottom of the third. Ola was able to get to Loganville starter Christian Miller scoring three runs to tie the game at three going into the top of the fourth inning.

The Red Devils loaded the bases in the top of the fourth and second baseman Cody McCance singled with two outs and two runs scored giving the Devils a 5-3 lead going into the bottom of the fourth.

The Mustangs again mounted a comeback and scored two runs to tie the game and chased Miller from the game.  Coach Jeff Segars went to the pen and brought in Spencer Thomas. Thomas shut down the Mustangs and after four innings the score was again tied at 5-5.

Clint Frazier led off the fifth inning with a solo shot. his third of the night, and the Devils took the lead 6-5. Two batters later designated hitter Kyle Hall hit his own two run shot and the Red Devils took a three run lead into the bottom half of the fifth 8-5.  The defense shut down the Mustangs in the fifth and headed to the sixth inning with the Devils leading 8-5.

The offense went to work again as Cody McCance walked with one out in the sixth and first baseman Chance Bridges hit his second long ball of the night giving Loganville a 10-5 lead. Later in the inning catcher Brian Jacobs singled in a run stretching the lead to 11-5. The offense continued to roll with two runners on and one out, Kyle Hall hit his second home run of the night and gave the Red Devils a 14-5 lead.Going into the bottom of the sixth Kenny Anderson took the mound and gave up a run before retiring the side. The Red Devils went into the seventh with a big lead 14-6.

The Loganville bats were  not finished when second baseman Cody McCance led off the seventh and hit a solo homer, his second of the night and the Red Devils led 15-6. Ola proceeded to retire the side and with just three outs left the Mustangs trailed by nine going into the bottom of the seventh.

Senior Heath Holder came in to clean things up in the bottom of the seventh and shut down the Mustangs giving Loganville the sweep and sending the Red Devils to the final four of the state playoffs.

The Red Devils will have to go on the road for the next round on May 23. Loganville will again play a best of three series against the winner of the Greenbriar versus Marist series.
