Chaunte` Lowe Qualifies for Finals in 2012 Summer Olympics

With a jump of 1.93 meters (6.4 inches), new moves into the finals in high jump at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

In the qualifying round at 4:30 a.m. EDT this morning, Lowe, and fellow American Brigetta Barrett, were in the top 12, moving them into Saturday’s finals. Barrett also cleared 1.93 meters. According to Reuters, the only higher jump was by Svetlana Radzivil of Uzbekistan who cleared 1.96 meters. With a jump of 1.85 meters, the third member of the U.S. team, Amy Acuff, did not make it into the finals.

“Ha! Despite the weather here, my forecast is 77 and mostly sunny! Woohoo! God’s too good not to shine. Let the games begin,” Lowe tweeted this morning, following up with. “Yes, I’m excited. In my dorm like a lion waiting to pounce, with the Jumangi drums playing in the background.”

The high jump finals will be at 2 p.m. Saturday. On her return to the U.S., Lowe will be taking up a position as a new math teacher at in Loganville.
