For just a moment, Berkmar's fans had hope.
The Patriots had just kicked off to Grayson to open the Region 8-AAAAA contest, and forced the Rams to go three-and-out on their opening possession.
Unfortunately for Berkmar, the game didn't end there.
Grayson scored on six of its next seven possessions, building a 43-0 halftime lead on the way to a 56-6 rout of the Patriots.
Callen Hightower got things rolling for the Rams when he hauled in a 46-yard scoring pass from Nick Schuessler with 7:16 left in the first quarter.
Robert Nkemdich's conversion run made it 8-0. Three minutes later it was Nkemdich on a 1-yard plunge, then Devin Gillespe broke free for a 13-yard touchdown with 39 seconds still remaining in the first quarter.
Wayne Gallman, Terrius Watson and Gillespe added second-quarter scores as the Rams (4-0, 2-0 in 8-AAAAA) cruised.
Berkmar (1-3, 0-2) got its only score of the night in the third period when Dorren Miller got past the Rams secondary for a 33-yard touchdown pass from Deion Perry.
Jordan Germany and Brishon Prieste added late scores for Grayson.
Watson led a balanced Grayson ground game with 67 yards and a touchdown on nine carries.
The Rams rolled up 319 yards on the ground on 44 attempts, while Berkmar was held to just 26 yards on 29 rushes. Fourteen Grayson backs carried the ball.
"It was great for our kids," said Grayson coach Mickey Conn. "We didn't get anybody hurt, and everybody got to play."
