Thigpen Transfers to South Gwinnett High

After serving as assistant principal from 2005-2011, he will return soon as principal.

A familiar face to the South Gwinnett Cluster community will become the new principal of after the Gwinnett County Board of Education approved the recommendation of Eric Thigpen as the new leader.  

The School Board voted to name Thigpen the school's new principal during its monthly board meeting in August. Thigpen will return to South Gwinnett High after most recently serving as the principal of Snellville Middle, a South Gwinnett Cluster middle school.

He was assistant principal at South Gwinnett from 2005-2011.

From 2001-2005, he served as assistant principal and Title I Mathematics teacher at Bainbridge High.  He also served at East Coweta High (Coweta County) as a math teacher and coach from 2000-2001, and at Eastside High (Newton County) as a math teacher and coach from 1997-1999.  

Thigpen received his bachelor's degree in Middle Grades Education from Georgia Southern University, and a master's degree in Educational Leadership from Albany State University.

A graduate of the school district's 2009 Quality-Plus Leader Academy, Thigpen will transition to South Gwinnett High in the coming weeks.  South Gwinnett is currently under the leadership of retired veteran educator and principal mentor Jane Stegall. The former Brookwood High School principal was named interim principal in July.
