Bulldogs, Purple Hurricanes Press on

Playoff games tonight for Monroe Area and George Walton

This Season, Purple Hurricane football has not been for the faint of heart. Last week's playoff game against Grady High School (Atlanta) was no exception. Monroe Area won the game by one point in overtime. The 21-20 victory gives them home field advantage over the South Effingham Mustangs.  The AAAA 3-A champs defeated Westover High (Albany) 41-28 last week to advance to tonight's game.

The George Walton Academy Bulldogs defeated Aquinas (Augusta) 38-12 last week and advance to Round II of the GHSA Divsion A (Private) Playoffs. Tonight they will Travel to Marietta to take on Walker Academy. Walker knocked off Athens Christian Academy last week by a score of 28-7 to advance.

It's an 8-A rematch in Athens tonight as the Athens Academy Spartans meet the Prince Ave Christian School Wolverines. This will be round 2 in more ways than one.  The Spartans defeated Mt. Pisgah Academy 17-13 last week, while Prince Ave knocked off Darlington (Rome) 42-21.  This is the second time this season these two teams have scrapped. On Oct. 5, the Spartans defeated the Wolverines by a touchdown in an epic defensive battle, 14-7.  The Spartans are defending an undefeated season while the Wolverines are seeking redemption.
