GC Officials Looking for Support for E-SPLOST

With tax revenues down, Gwinnett officials are trying to get the word out on the importance of the Education-SPLOST vote tomorrow.

Gwinnett County officials kicked into high gear in the lead up to the election, spreading the word about the necessity to vote tomorrow on the Education Special Local Sales Tax Option. If approved, the sales tax would be collected beginning on July 1, 2012 and would expire on June 30, 2017. It is projected to generate $876 million at best. Of that, $17.1 million would be for Buford City Schools and the balance for Gwinnett County Public Schools.

The following are items that would be paid for with the funds generated by the E-SPLOST if it passes.

  • 5 new schools
  • 8 additions at existing schools
  • 1 renovation to an existing school
  • 433 new classrooms
  • Technology improvements systemwide, digital Content, Learning, Assessment, and Support System for Gwinnett County Public Schools... Enhancing student engagement and improving teaching and learning
  1. eCLASS will...
  • Provide teachers with better information about their students’ learning needs.
  • Enhance ways students use digital content.
  • Help district realize cost savings in terms of textbooks.
  • Improve business functions within GCPS.
  • Provide a more robust technology infrastructure for schools.
  • Increase Wi-Fi capabilities, paving the way for students to bring their own technology/devices.
  • Expand portal access for employees and parents and lay groundwork for a student portal.

The following items are earmarked for clusters within the Loganville and Grayson school district.
