Grayson High Principal to Retire in 2014

David Hopson, who's been the principal of the high school since 2009, will start his retirement in February.

Grayson High Principal David Hopson is retiring from Gwinnett County Public Schools at the end of January 2014.

GCPS spokesman Jorge Quintana confirmed the retirement with Patch. A new principal has not been named yet.

After starting his teaching carer in 1981 Texas and then Alabama, Hopson joined the GCPS family in 2003 as assistant principal of Dacula High. He served at Dacula until 2006 when he became the assistant principal of Peachtree Ridge High. He joined the Rams community in 2009 as principal of Grayson.

Hopson posted the following statement on the Grayson High School website about his retirement:

"Dear Grayson Community,

"I have truly enjoyed my ten and a half years in Gwinnett County Public Schools. It has been an honor to work with the most outstanding educators anywhere. I've worked in several school systems in three states; not one can compare to the excellence in GCPS.

"I will cherish the friendships I've made during my time here forever. I have especially enjoyed my last five years as principal at Grayson High School. We have accomplished so much with the tremendous support of our Grayson community. I live here and work here. I am deeply vested in GHS and with all those who help our faculty, staff, and students every day in so many ways. I'll always have a special place in my heart for Grayson High School. I wish for them continued success in the future.

"My last day of employment with GCPS will be January 31, 2014. My first day of retirement will be February 1, 2014.

GO  RAMS!!

Sincerely,
David Hopson"
