GHS Students Receive 4 of 8 GCPS Scholarships

Each year GCPS awards a number of scholarships to graduation seniors thanks to the generosity of the community.

Four Grayson High School students were among eight students awarded Gwinnett County Public School Foundation scholarships. Each year GCPS awards a number of scholarships to graduation seniors thanks to the generosity of the community.

  • Angelina Faria was one of the recipients of the 2012 Alton C. Crews Teaching Scholarship. She plans on attending the University of Georgia in the fall.

Since 2002, donations have been made to the Alton C. Crews Teaching Scholarship Fund in memory of Dr. Crews, superintendent of Gwinnett County Public Schools from 1977 to 1989. A one-time scholarship is awarded
annually to a GCPS senior pursuing a career in education. The amount of
the 2012 award is $1,000 for each recipient. 

  • Michael Ziegler is a recipient of the 2012 Barbara Reed Science Scholarship. His plans include attending Georgia College and State University in the fall.

The Dr. Barbara Reed Science Scholarship is a one-time award of $1,000 to a student who exhibits good character and leadership skills, maintained a 3.0 GPA, and has a desire to enter the science field. Special consideration is given to applicants interested in science education. This award is named in honor of Dr. Barbara Reed, a longtime Gwinnett educator who also served as the district’s director of science.

  • Adarsh Patel is a recipient of the 2012 Gwinnett Federal Credit Union Louise Radloff Scholarship.

The purpose of the Louise Radloff Scholarship Program is to provide funds for a Gwinnett County high school senior who has overcome a significant personal challenge in order to graduate and is pursuing postsecondary study through a four-year, two-year or certificate program. This fund was established in 2004 by Gwinnett Federal Credit Union in honor of four decades of service by Gwinnett County Board of Education member Louise Radloff, and in recognition of her tireless work on behalf of those most in need. Thanks to the Gwinnett Federal Credit Union and the GCPS Foundation, each student will receive $2,500.  

  • Abbey Rikard is a recipient of the 2012 Gwinnett Federal Credit Union J. Alvin Wilbanks Scholarship. He plans to attend the University of Georgia this fall.

This fund was established in 2007 by Gwinnett Federal Credit Union in honor of more than four decades of service to public education by CEO/Superintendent J. Alvin Wilbanks, and in recognition of his leadership in guiding the district to state and national prominence as superintendent since 1996. The fund provides a one-time scholarship each year to a GCPS senior pursuing a career in education. The amount of the 2012 award is $2,500 for each student made possible by the Gwinnett Federal Credit Union and the GCPS Foundation.

In honoring the recipients of the 2012 Gwinnett Federal Credit Union Louise Radloff Scholarship and the 2012 Gwinnett Federal Credit Union J.
