Walton County's teams back in action tonight after collective bye week; Regional action takes center stage as squads start looking towards playoffs

The Loganville Red Devils welcome the Apalachee Wildcats tonight. Both teams head into the game at 1-4 - not where they want to be in the standings. LHS had a bye last week. The week prior, time ran out on the Devils after they rallied late to come within two points of Clarke Central. The 'Cats nearly pulled off an upset against the Flowery Branch Falcons last week, but also came up short for a 17-14 final. Next week, Apalachee will face the Cedar Shoals Jaguars while Loganville will face the Winder Barrow Bulldoggs.

George Walton Academy's Bulldogs have a bye week. Last week, they beat Hebron Academy 52-10, making them 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the region. Next week, they will face Pinecrest Academy.

Loganville Christian Academy Lions are back on the gridiron tonight following a long two week bye. The Lions are 6-0 on the season. Tonight they face Dominion Academy (Marietta) who has won all three of their home games but lost on the road all four times. Last week they beat Covenant Academy (Macon's, not Loganville's) 40-22. Next week the Lions welcome Young Americans Christian School to the den.

The Walnut Grove Warriors head to Gainseville to face the Chestatee War Eagles tonight. The Warriors spent last Friday in the bye-week wigwam, hoping to turn their 1-4 season around in the second half of the season. Two weeks ago, ambitious point-after descisions proved costly to the tribe against Lumpkin County. While both teams scored two touchdowns, Walnut Gorve tried, but failed, twice to convert for two points. Lumpkin managed to kick one between the posts to hand them a 12-13 loss. Next week the Warriors brace for the oncoming storm that is the Monroe Area Purple Hurricane team. Meanwhile, Chestatee won last week; they are 4-1 and within striking distance ofMonroe Area's 8-AAAAA lead.

It's a big regional matchup tonight as the undefeated Monroe Area Purple Hurricanesmeet the Stephens County Indians. The 'Canes are 5-0 on the year; two of those strong wins against region opponents. Last week they took a bye and the week before they took out Lanier High, 33-20.  The Indians, who were undefeated as well, were taken somewhat by surprise two weeks ago by the surging Chestatee War Eagles, who handed them a critical in-league loss to put them 4-1 overall and 1-1 in 8-AAAA. Next week the 'Canes travel a few miles west on Hwy 138 toWalnut Grove to face the Warriors.

The Social Circle Redskins welcome the Oglethorpe County Patriots in a 8-AA matchup tonight. Last week, the 'Skins started off with with some pep, scoring early to take a 3-0 lead against Greene County. However, those hopes were quickly dashed as Greene quickly took the lead, held it, then ran up the score to make it a 3-61 final. The Patriots lost last week by a touchdown against Union County. Next week, the Redskins will face Riverside Military Academy.

The Winder-Barrow Bulldoggs will face the Flowery Branch Falcons this week. The hapless Doggs still seek their first win of the year, but that win won't come easy against the Falcons, who lost their first two games to teams in the state's top-10 list but haven't lost since. Winder-Barrow lost to a tough Heritage Patriot team last week by a score of 12-37.

Bethlehem Christian Academy's Knights will face the Curtis Baptist Crusaders (Augusta) tonight. BCA is 2-4 for the season after shutting down Hancock Academy in a lopsided 68-0 victory last week. Curtis' record is even at 3, they defeated Greene Academy last week 34-2. Next week the Knights welcome Dawson Street Christian Academy of Lagrange.

The North Oconee Titans enjoyed a sweet homecoming win last week, handing the Morgan County Bulldogs their first loss of the season. The Titans quickly took control of the game and held Morgan to a lone touchdown in the 35-7 regional win. Tonight, they take on the Franklin County Lions, a team whose 1-4 overall, 0-2 regional record is a mirror image to North's 4-1, 2-0 record. Last week the Lions lost to Jackson County, 29-39. Next week, the Titans head east to meet Elbert County's Blue Devils.

The Oconee Warriors' warpath takes them up I-85 to face the Hart County Bulldogs. The Warriors did not share the Titans homecoming success last week, instead taking a 21-62 walloping from Elbert County. They are now 1-4 overall and still looking for their first regional win. The Bulldogs blanked East Jackson last week, 44-0. They are 2-0 in regional action after opening their season with three straight losses. Next week, the Warriors head home to meet Franklin County.

Athens Academy heads to Cumming tonight undefeated after besting the Prine Ave Wolverineslast week in an epic top ten defesnive battle.  The Spartans won 14-7, are now 5-0 overall; 2-0 regional. Tonight's oppoents, Pincrest Academy, is coming off a 2 week bye. When last they competed, they shutout Hebron Academy 35-0. Next week, the Spartans will face the Commerce Tigers in regional action.

Meanwhile, the Prince Avenue Christian Academy Wolverines lick their wounds from last week's loss to meet the stumbling Commerce Tigers. PACA tasted defeat for the first time last week against the Spartans. After starting the season 4-0 and climbing into the region's top ten, the Tigers have been on a two week skid, losing both region games they have played so far. First to George Walton Academy, then to Athens Christian Academy last week. Next week, The Wolverines face another faltering team, the Hebron Christain Academy Lions.

Those Lions face a resurgent Eagles team tonight. Athens Christain Academy is hoping to build off the success of last week's 19-14 upset of the Commerce Tigers. That win represents only their second victory this season, and their first regional win. Hebron Academy has been taking it on the chin of late, getting chewed by the George Walton Bulldogs last week in a 10-52 rout. Next week ACA has a bye week, then will be home to meet Pincrest Academy.

A good game is in store for fans tonight as the 3-2 Clarke Central Gladiators meet the 5-1 Heritage Patriots. Both teams have fared well in regional clashes, Clarke is 3-0 and Heritage 3-1 in league action. Last week, the Gladiators shut out Salem 37-0, while the Pats easily handled Winder-Barrow37-12. Next week, the Gladiators face their toughest challenge so far this season when the travel to Gainseville to take on the Red Elephants.

Cedar Grove Jaguars are on a bye this week. Last week's 23-42 loss to Gainesville surprised exactly noone. Still, The Jaguars have had a decent season thus far, and will take a 3-3 record into Wildcat territory next Friday to face Apalachee High School.
