Father of Boy Punched at Gwinnett School May Seek Legal Action

Daniel Egan said his son will not return to Parkview High School.

The father of the Parkview High School student who was punched twice in the face and seriously injured at school last week is reportedly considering legal action against the school system.

WXIA-TV reported Daniel Egan has hired an attorney to look into the case. His son, David, ended up in the hospital and needed reconstructive surgery in the aftermath of a March 25 locker room incident that apparently started over an accusation David Egan had stolen the other boy’s gym shoes.

The altercation was caught on video and went viral online after the father shared it with WXIA. Daniel Egan called it a “premeditated group attack,” during which onlookers stood nearby and did nothing to stop the attack.

The attorney, Mike Puglise, told WXIA the Gwinnett County School System needs to be more “proactive” in its policies on fighting.

See the video in this report, which included reactions from students, Gwinnett County District Attorney Danny Porter and others. The report said the boy charged had reported the missing shoes to school officials the day before the incident.
