Basketball Star Power At LCA For A Good Cause

Money raised will go towards two good causes.

There will be some big names in basketball to see in Loganville tonight – and all for a good cause. is hosting a charity basketball game with a lot of star power scheduled to appear – from the local area as well as further afield.

Some of these players include Trey Thompkins and Travis Leslie formerly of the University of Georgia Bulldogs and currently of the LA Clippers as well as Chris Barnes from UGA Basketball. There are also several professional players from overseas as well as some of the top high school players from the metro Atlanta area.

The tickets for this game are $5 each and the proceeds will be split between two causes. Part of it will go towards a college fund for basketball player Angunn Daniel whose mother was murdered in June. He will be playing in the game in his mother’s name and the money generated will go toward achieving her wish for him to attend college. The other part will be generating money for the family of Stephen Davis who was killed in a car accident in December. He left behind an 8-month-old daughter and money raised will go toward a scholarship fund for her

According to Brandon Clay, coordinator of the event, a similar event last year to help a local pastor who needed surgery raised $8,000, so they are hoping for a similar outpouring this time.

“We have been working on a very short notice so corporations have not really heard about this event to give. We are hoping for a big turnout at the event,” Clay said, adding he hopes it will become an annual event.

The benefit begins at 8 p.m. Friday in the LCA gymnasium at 2575 Highway 81 in Loganville. People are urged to arrive early to avoid the crowds.
