Walton County Commissioner Appointed to Leadership Position

Walton County District 2 Commissioner Chuck Bagley, of Loganville, was appointed to serve as vice chairman of the newly formed Federal Policy Committee on the Association County Commissioners of Georgia.

Last week, joined their counterparts and other county representatives from across the state at the annual Legislative Leadership Conference hosted by the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG).

It was revealed that last month, Walton County District 2 Commissioner Chuck Bagley, of Loganville, was appointed to serve as vice chairman of the newly formed Federal Policy Committee on the ACCG. According to his letter of appointment, Bagley was selected because of his “knowledge of issues of importance to the committee as well as his active participation in the ACCG’s policy development procedures.”

“By moving into this leadership position, you can help further county legislative priorities that will have a significant impact throughout the state,” Ross King, executive director of ACCG, wrote in Bagley’s letter of appointment.

In addition, on Oct. 4, Bagley was awarded a certificate of completion for the Certified Commissioners Advanced Program, offered by ACCG in conjunction with the Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia. This makes Bagley the third of Walton County's commissioners to carry this distinction. Chairman Kevin Little and Commissioner Clinton Ayers also hold the same certificate.

“The ACCG provides me with foundational information in topics ranging from finance, human resources and ethics to a other diverse public policy issues and allows me to learn from the experiences of my peers,” Bagley said.

The annual conference provides training opportunities for commissioners in such topics as economic development, state and federal relations, public safety, tax policy, human resources, criminal justice and illegal immigration reform. In addition, attendees at the 2011 conference voted on the 2011-2012 ACCG County Platform and heard from keynote speaker Hank Huckaby, Chancellor of the University System of Georgia Board of Regents.

“Our conferences are designed to bring county officials together to learn about issues that could impact their community and to learn from their peers,” King said. “Legislative advocacy and leadership development are central to our mission, and our conferences are one of the most cost-effective ways for county officials to learn from experts.”

County officials also had an opportunity to talk to representatives from ACCG’s insurance and retirement programs and hear from ACCG’s preferred partners including Dell, Enterprise, Gas South, FivePoint Solutions and Verizon.
