Trash Fees Going Up for County Residents

New rates to go into effect during 2012 annual billing cycle.

The county-mandated garbage collection plan will be more expensive in 2012.

The new rate of $18.16 per month -- a 30 cent per month increase over the current rate -- will go into effect in 2012. The total amount to be included on the 2011 property tax bill will be $217.92.

The fee increase is calculated from increases in the consumer price index and rising fuel prices. According to a statement released by Gwinnett County, “Even with the small monthly increase, residents will notice a substantial reduction in the total solid waste fee charged on the tax bills since they will only be billed for 12 months instead of 18.” During the previous billing cycle, residents in unincorporated parts of Gwinnett County paid 18 months in advance for garbage collection services covering the period from July 2010 through 2011 instead of the yearly amount that will be billed this time.
