Term Limits Back on Loganville City Council Agenda

A recent change in the make up of the council could make all the difference in the vote.

In February last year, a proposal by Councilman Skip Baliles to move the Loganville City Council to term limits was defeated when then Mayor Ray Nunley voted to break the tie.

Councilmen Mike Jones and Dan Curry supported the measure to limit the city’s council posts to two four-year terms only. At that time, Councilwoman Michelle Lynch and Councilmen Rey Martinez and Mark Kiddoo voted against the measure, setting up the tie.

If nobody has changed his or her mind, newly-elected Councilman Jay Boland is likely to be the lynchpin vote on the issue. Following the death of Nunley in April this year, Curry is now the mayor and would be the tie-breaking vote in the event of another tie on the measure. If Boland votes against the measure, and Kiddoo, Martinez and Lynch have not changed their minds, the measure will again be defeated without Curry voting on the measure. A vote the other way by Boland, however, could possibly set up another tie vote.
