State Senator To Host Town Hall Meeting on I-85 HOT Lanes

Former Loganville mayor and current state Sen. Renee Unterman (R-Buford) is hosting a town hall meeting Monday to allow people to discuss problems with the new I-85 toll lanes.

Are the new Peach Pass HOT lanes on I-85 getting you down? If so, you have an opportunity to vent at a town hall meeting at 7 p.m. tonight at the North View Church in Buford.

The event is organized in part by former Loganville mayor and now state Sen. Renee Unterman (R-Buford) who, according to 11 Alive News, said she has never received so many angry phone calls or emails about any one subject. The governor has already intervened and lowered the toll. He has also requested that the number of people in a vehicle to qualify for a free ride in the express lane be lowered from three to two, but that request has not yet been answered.

Although the number of motorists using the HOT lanes have doubled since the beginning of the month when the system was first launched, many are still angry about the new system. It is unclear whether members of the State Road and Tollway Authority will be in attendance at tonight’s town hall. Although it was first reported there would be SRTA members at the meeting, there have been other reports that they had a prior arrangement and would not be able to attend.
