Significant Weather Advisory Issued for Walton And Gwinnett County

Wind gusts up to 45 mph expected. Advisory to remain in effect until 8:30 p.m., Watch to remain in effect until 9 p.m.

At 7:33 p.m., National Weather Service doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms from Brasstown Bald to Harbin, moving southeast at 30 mph. This prompted a significant weather advisory for 45 mph winds in several counties, including Walton and Gwinnett. The advisory is in effect until 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

These storms are reported to have the potential to produce pea-sized hail, frequent cloud to ground lightning and wind gusts to 45 mph as they move across White, Walton, Union, Towns, Oconee, Morgan, Lumpkin, Banks, Barrow, Clarke, Gwinnett, Hall and Jackson Counties. Included in the advisory areas are the cities of Walnut Grove and Loganville.

Heavy downpours will likely cause ponding of water on roadways and wind gusts may produce minor damage to tree limbs and blow light unsecured objects around. The severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect.
