Sept. 11 Commemorated By Thanking Local Heroes

Southern Plantation will have its annual Heroes Day luncheon Sept. 9 to thank local public safety officials for their service as a way to honor the heroes of Sept. 11, 2001.

With the 10-year anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks approaching, organizations around the country are planning events to pay tribute to the many heroes of that day. Southern Plantation in Loganville will have its annual Heroes Day luncheon to let local heroes know their service is appreciated.

“For all of us, September 11th is a day that will be remembered throughout our lifetime as a day that we witnessed the heroes amongst us,” Misty Duren, director of marketing for Southern Plantation wrote in an invite to public safety officials. “We have not forgotten the sacrifices made that day or that you continue to make every day.”

For the sixth year, Southern Plantation will be serving lunch to all city of Loganville, Monroe and Walton County public safety officials including sheriff’s deputies, fire department and emergency medical personnel as well as local members of the Georgia State Patrol. The event will run from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 9.

“Although it is a very small token for what they do for our community every day, we want to express our gratitude,” Duren said.
