Walton County BOC to Appoint Replacement District 5 Commissioner

The Walton County Board of Commissioners will vote next month on an appointee to fill the unexpired term of District 5 Commissioner Gerald Atha who resigned his post to challenge the chairman for his seat.

A spokesman with the Walton County Elections office said the Board of Commissions will appoint a replacement to fill out the remainder of the term for District 5 Commissioner Gerald Atha. In a shocker on the last day of qualifying, Atha resigned his position on the BOC and qualified to challenge BOC Chairman Kevin Little for his seat.

Little confirmed that the BOC will probably call a special meeting next month to vote on an appointee. He said no special election will be held. The appointee will serve out the remainder of Atha's term, which only runs out at the end of 2013.
