Meet Your Candidates: Loganville City Council

The fifth and last candidate to qualify for one of the three at-large seats on the was former mayor Mike Jones. The 69-year-old attorney chose not to share his information with Patch, but according to his company website, Jones is a Georgia native who has lived in Loganville for 43 years. He is married to Ann Jones and has two sons, Michael Jr. and Austin, and has one grandson, Owen. Austin Jones served on the Loganville City Council for a time before moving out of the Loganville city limits.

Jones’ website lists his political experience as four years as a Loganville councilman and eight as mayor of Loganville. His last attempt to seek political office in the city was a mayoral run in 2006 when then incumbent mayor Tim Barron beat Jones by 897 votes to 650.

Jones lists his leadership record as a trustee and past chairman for , chairman of the O’Kelly Library Board, past chairman of the Walton County Republican Party, past president of the Walton and Alcovy Bar Associations, the Board of Governors of the State Bar of Georgia, a member of the Fergus Masonic Lodge and a Shriner and has served as a Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America.

Early voting will open Oct. 17. Until Nov. 4 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Loganville City Hall voters can cast early ballots for three of the five candidates as well as on the two referendum issues - whether to allow for liquor-by-the-drink to be extended to Sunday serving and whether to allow retail sales of malt beverages in stores on a Sunday. Anyone not yet registered to vote has until Oct. 11 to do so.
