Loganville Moves Forward With Town Green

New rendering approved by Council

Among those things approved at Loganville's October 11, 2012 City Council Meeting was the new Town Green Concept as introduced by Council Woman Michelle Lynch.

Based on concerns of safety, a natural slope on the property, and the type of activities planned for the green, the pavillion is now located in the corner of Main Street at Covington Street.

Construction of this amphitheater-style Town Green in this manner will save the city $60-100,000 over the previous plan and orient the pavilion/amphitheater facing towards City Hall.

With unanimous approval, construction is expected to begin next week, according to City Manager Bill Jones. At this time, there is no set completion date, but city officials are hopeful it will be ready for the Fourth of July Celebration in 2013.

Other Parks and Recreation action included the restriction on parking along Huntington Ridge on October 30 and October 31st again this year. Citing continued concerns for safety and traffic flow, signs will be placed along the main artery and "No Parking" will be enforced.

The Autumn Heritage Festival is scheduled for October 20th from 10 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. You may find more information online.

On Veteran's Day, November 11, at 11:00 a.m., there will be a Wreath Laying Ceremony performed along with the American Legion Riders at City Hall.

Linda, I will try to get a close up of just the amphitheater area next week. Thanks!

God forbid Loganville leave well enough alone and save money for future necessities. I'm all for progress if it guarantees a return profit but we have people out of work and losing their homes due to government stupidity. Must we replicate such wasteful spending in our home town? We can put a recycle center in that spot for all I care as long as it makes sense for the taxpayers.
