Loganville Mayor Will Not be Running for Reelection in 2013

The announcement came during Mayor Ray Nunley's State of the City Address on Feb. 14, 2013. Nunley announced at the end of last year that he was battling lung cancer.

During his State of the City address on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2013,Β  Loganville Mayor Ray Nunley announced he would not be seeking reelection in 2013.

Nunley had announced at the beginning of 2012 that he would be running for another term in 2013 when his term is up. When he first Nunley said nothing had changed.

"I plan to whip this thing and I will be running for reelection next year," Nunley said at the time.

However, that is no longer the case. At the end of the 2013 State of the City address, Nunley said that it would be his last.

"This is my fifth, and sadly, it will be my last - it will be my last as I plan to end my political career at the end of the year," Nunley said. "And I just want to say that I'm so gratified for the support that I received from the city."

Nunley said he hoped that he would be able to see out the full term until the end of the year, and he believed he would. He is currently undergoing treatment for cancer, but said it is going well. He received a standing ovation at the end of his State of the City Address.
