Kirby to Get Some Competition in July Primary

Candidate from Rockdale County to enter Georgia House District 114 Race.

The Rockdale Citizen is reporting that Republican Rodney Upton from Rockdale County will face off against newly-elected of Loganville for Georgia House District 114 in the July 31 Primary.Β

Kirby was recently elected to the 107th District in a Special Election to replace former . However, with redistricting, Kirby will be defending the newly-created District 114 to hold onto a seat in the House in November, but he will first have to make it through the Primary in July. The district includes parts of Rockdale, Gwinnett, Walton and Barrow counties. In the District 107 campaign when Kirby defeated Paul Smith in a runoff he only had to campaign in Walton and Gwinnett counties.

According to the Rockdale Citizen, this is Upton’s second attempt to seek public office. His first attempt was in 2010 when he unsuccessfully ran for Georgia's 95th District seat. He is reported to own and operate a septic and plumbing business. Upton is married and he and his wife have six children between the ages of 3 and 13.
