Gwinnett Residents See Water and Sewer Rate Increase

The new water rate represents a 3.5 percent increase over last year's rate; the sewer rate is nearly 10 percent higher.

Beginning in January, Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources customers will see higher rates for water and sewer.

  • Tier 1 rates (up to 8,000 gallons) increased from $4.53 to $4.69.
  • Tier 2 rates (8,000 – 12,000 gallons) rose to $7.03, up from $6.79
  • Tier 3 rates (over 12,000 gallons) increased from $9.06 to $9.38.

Sewer rates will also be significantly higher as residential customers will pay a rate of $7.11 per 1,000 gallons in 2013 compared to $6.47 in 2012 -- a 9.9 percent increase.

The Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources does not receive taxpayer funding and routinely increases its rates to cover operating costs.
