Grayson Turns Out for a Ram Nation Celebration

The City of Grayson hosts a celebration for the State 5A Champion Rams.

Though the coaches and team asked for a low-key send-off to the championship game last week, as a city, wanted to let their know of the support they had "back at home."

Thursday, amid the Christmas decorations that mark the season, Rams fans lined Park Drive into Grayson City Park to show their appreciation for a season well played and their pride and support of an exemplary team and coaching staff.

It looked a bit like a scene from a movie as the band and cheerleaders led the team across the street and on to the pavilion for presentations, words of thanks and applause from an appreciative crowd.

The team and coaches, as well as the those who came out to celebrate, were pleased to experience a live performance of the "The Grayson Boys," Patrick Sullivan, Kawan Moore and Ryan Hutcheson, as they sang and It was an especially proud moment for them to realize that so many in the crowd, especially the younger ones, knew ALL the words - and all the moves - to the songs.

Under the pavilion, Jack Britt spoke for a whole town and Councilwoman Allison Wilkerson spoke for the city when presenting the key to the city to Coach Mickey Conn and his wife, Halie.Β

After making presentations to coaches and staff, many members of the team remained in the park to sign autographs and have photos with fans. Patient, gracious, and sincere with their smiles, their thanks, and maybe just a little overwhelmed with the many requests for autographs and photos, the Grayson Rams are more than football players; they are gentlemen. Those in attendance agreed, coach Conn has a very special team with some exceptional leaders to his credit as well as a state championship trophy.

Much like "everyone" is Irish on St. Patrick's Day, tonight, as Grayson's Principal David Hopson said, "We're all proud to be Rams."
