Grayson Jewelers Pays Patron's Mortgage

Mayor Jim Hinkle makes the good news call.

On the first of every other month, is invited over to to assist with some city business of a different kind; a local business's gesture of community spirit and goodwill. On this day, the mayor serves as an ambassador of good news and draws the name of a lucky winner from a fish bowl of customer entry forms. The winner receives a month’s mortgage or rent payment – compliments of Grayson Jeweler. This ritual is a token of appreciation from Grayson Jewelers for the customer’s patronage.

“It’s one of the more pleasurable aspects of being a mayor,” Hinkle joked.

Hinkle has always been proud of his city and the merchants that have located there evolving Grayson's uptown business atmosphere.

"We have a great variety of upscale retailers, salons and restaurants in our downtown district,” Hinkle said in a press release. “I am especially pleased and grateful when our local businesses are supportive and involved with the city's events and activities. Giving back to the community is never expected, but it is certainly cherished and above all, respected.”

The owners of Grayson Jewelers, Joe and Beth Kalish, said that their business is thriving and their projections have been appreciably exceeded.

"We feel truly blessed and fortunate to be doing so well in such a troubled economy. We wanted to do something to show how grateful we are", they wrote in the release. "Our family is thrilled to be able to do this."

On Nov. 1, Hinkle made the good-news-call to Loganville resident, Joe Saucier, a 70-year-old senior, who, with his wife, had recently purchased a new home. Saucier was “absolutely shocked,” telling the mayor that he has never won anything in his entire life!

The owners of Grayson Jewelers said they were excited to have changed that stride of luck for the Sauciers, and look very forward to the New Year's Drawing on Jan. 1, 2012!

“What City Charter states that mayoral business is all about politics, elections, and council meetings?” Michelle Couch of the Tri-City Business Association said. “As always, the City of Grayson is anything but ‘typical.’"

Couch went on to note a famous quote by Winston Churchill -  "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give."
