Grand Reopening of Vines Railroad Will be on National Train Day

The Second Saturday in May is designated as National Train Day. This will be May 11 in 2013.

From 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2013, the Vines Garden Railroad will celebrate National Train Day with a Grand Reopening at the Gwinnett County park.


On May 1Oth. 1869, at Promontory Summit, Utah. Union Pacific Locomotive No. 119 and Central Pacific No. 60 "Jupiter" met where the ceremonial "Golden Spike" was driven into the final tie completing the first transcontinental railroad across the nation.


To celebrate this important date in history and promote rail travel in the U.S.A. Amtrak have designated the second Saturday in May as National Train Day.

The Vines Garden Railroad located at Vines Park in Loganville will be recognizing this event with the seasonal opening of the only public, G scale, garden railroad in the State of Georgia. Model trains, both steam and diesel; with authentic sounds can be seen operating in a natural landscaped area ofthe park. Covering an area ofone-quafier acre, over one thousand feet oftrack take the trains over bridges, through tunnels, past villages, towns and airports. Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation will be providing activities for the children including arts, crafts and games. Snacks and refreshments will be available. Come and join us in the celebration!
