Closing of Lanes For Work On Express Lanes to Resume In The Morning

Beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday, lane closures on I-85 in DeKalb and Gwinnett County will resume for construction of the new HOT lanes due to open this summer.

With the end of the holiday weekend, work is set to resume on construction of the new Express Lane system along Interstate 85 with the resultant lane closures beginning at 9 a.m. tomorrow.

According to a press release from the state Department of Transportation, overhead signage is still the focus of the project. To actually install the signs, crews are working overnight closing lanes and pacing traffic. This pacing can only occur in that nighttime work zone between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. There are over 60 new signs on this project.

The following lane closures are scheduled for Gwinnett and DeKalb counties this week. Daytime work will occur from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on northbound lanes and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on southbound lanes. Nightly lane closures on northbound lanes will be from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. and southbound lanes will close from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. After midnight, three lanes will be closed. This work will be done as weather permits.
