Veteran Still Missing After Disappearance in Walton County

"We're remaining optimistic in this," said Chief Deputy Keith Brooks of the Walton County Sheriff's Office.

The Walton County Sheriff's Office is still looking for the veteran who went missing Oct. 7 at the intersection of Highway 11 and Interstate 20.

Chief Deputy Keith Brooks said deputies are out looking for Travis Clarke Dean, of Monroe, everyday at hospitals and similar locations in metro Atlanta and beyond. Dean was last seen at the intersection of Highway 11 and I-20 and is believed to have been traveling to the VA hospital in Decatur.

The sheriff's office has received several sightings of him so far, with the most recent tip on Thursday (Oct. 18), but they haven't been able to confirm if any of them were him.

"Twenty-four hours a day, we have somebody on call that actively pursues those leads," said Brooks. "We're remaining optimistic in this."

Dean has cirrhosis of the liver and needs medical attention. Brooks said the missing man also has mental issues relating to his time as a paratrooper in the military from the late '80s and early '90s.

Dean's father was the one who reported him missing when he didn't hear from his son for a few days.

Dean, 42, is a white male who weighs 140 pounds and is 5 feet 11 inches. He has a slender build, and has brown eyes and hair. He was last seen wearing a faded tan shirt, torn blue jeans, a gold cross necklace and a watch on his left wrist.

Anyone with details on Dean's whereabouts are asked to contact the sheriff's office at 770-267-6557 or dial 911.
