Three Years After Attack, Murder Victim's Family Still Seeking Justice

It is now three years since the day that was beaten in her Loganville home. She died the following month as a result of her injuries. Since then, her sister, Faye Evans, and other members of her family have made sure that she is not forgotten.

“Please remind the people of Loganville about what happened on May 23rd three years ago when my sister was brutally beaten to the point that we couldn’t even recognize her,” Evans wrote on Loganville-Grayson Patch’s Facebook page. “We are still demanding justice for Epsie.”

The three Monroe men accused of the murder were arrested even before Ewing had succumbed to her injuries. Ewing's husband, C.F. Ewing, also was beaten during the attack, but his injuries were minor. The pretrial motions of the three men, Cory Butler, John Jodie Blackwell Jr., and Barry Marquez Partee, have dragged on, largely because up until now court proceedings have been conducted jointly for all three men. But that will now change with the date set for the first trial. As all three are facing the death penalty, they will be tried separately. .

Evans has been single-minded in making sure that the case has been kept in the forefront of everybody’s mind. On the anniversary of the attack, she posted this message on Facebook to her sister

Epsie, you were such a blessing here, and we know you will be so very blessed in heaven. We still miss you like crazy especially that beautiful smile of yours. We still have get togethers, but there are not the same without you. We will never stop until there is justice for you.
