Three Walton County Residents Die in Crashes Over Weekend

A 15-year-old Loganville High School student and a 24-year-old motorcylist from Loganville are among those killed in three separate accidents.

Three traffic accidents in Walton and Newton counties this past weekend resulted in the death of a Covington and a Monroe resident as well as two Loganville residents, including a 15-year-old student.

According to a Georgia State Patrol spokesman, LHS student Madison Young died Sunday afternoon after an ATV accident on Mount Ena Church Road, half a mile east of Jack’s Creek Road, in Walton County.

The Honda Rancher Young and 15-year-old Katie Kennedy of Monroe were riding left the roadway in a curve on the right side, struck an embankment and then a tree. Kennedy was taken to Athens Regional Medical Center for treatment, but Young did not survive the crash. The accident is still under investigation, and officials are not sure yet who was driving at the time of the accident.

Sunday morning, a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of GA 138 and Gum Creek Road in Newton County resulted in two fatalities, includidng 24-year-old Richard Lynn McKee of Loganville.

According to the GSP, McKee, riding a 1986 Honda rebel motorcycle, died after Deane Strapp Smith, 67, of Covington, ran the stop sign on Gum Creek Road. The motorcycle struck the driver’s side of the 2003 Oldsmobile Alero that Smith was driving. Both McKee and Smith were killed in the crash.
