One person has been arrested after a SWAT standoff and fired gunshots at a Loganville-area residence caused several surrounding homes to be evacuated Wednesday (Jan. 22).
Kelvin Gourick, 54, has been charged with aggravated assault and terroristic threats and acts. He is being held in Gwinnett County jail without bond, according to a news release from Gwinnett Sheriff's Office spokesperson Deputy Shannon Volkodav.
The incident started when Gwinnett deputies were serving an eviction notice around 9:30 a.m. to Gourick's home on the 1800 block of Mountain Park Run, near Temple Johnson Road and Skyland Drive.

"As they were attempting to make entry into the house, a male subject appeared in the window asking why they were there," said Volkodav.

After the deputies explained that they were serving a Writ of Possession, Gourick said he would not come out and he also wouldn't let anyone in.

Gunshots then were heard in the home, so authorities established a perimeter around the home and. Additional gunshots were fired.

Homes in the immediate vicinity were evacuated and all road traffic into the neighborhood was halted as the situation unfolded. Sheriff’s SWAT negotiators established communication with the Gourick and successfully persuaded him to surrender approximately 90 minutes later.

Gourick exited the residence through the front door, where he was taken into custody by deputies and transported to the Gwinnett County Jail without further incident.

There are no reports of injury and Gourick was the only occupant inside the home.
