Officers originally responded to the location where the 911 call originated, which was a residence a short distance away on Pirkle Road. That was where they found the victim who had managed to drive himself to the secondary location from where the 911 call was placed. Dozier told police had been robbed and shot in his own residence at the Oakbrook Pointe Apartments an hour or more earlier. Officers provided first aid and Dozier was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
