Chief Mike McHugh said at about 3 a.m. Saturday morning an attempted murder suspected barricaded in a Loganville home had shot on members of police.
"They returned fire, but we are not sure of the condition of the man at this point," McHugh said, adding at about 6:30 a.m. that they were waiting for equipment to arrive to send into the home to check on his status.
The standoff began last night when members of the Loganville Police Department were asked to do a welfare check on the home of a man wanted out of North Carolina for attempted murder. The wife was reportedly removed from the home by police before the man retrieved a gun and barricaded himself inside the home. Emergency response teams from both Loganville and the Walton County Sheriff's Deparment were called in and the standoff continued overnight.
"We don't believe there is anyone else inside the home," McHugh said.
The surrounding homes had been evacuated during the standoff. Updates to follow.
