Serial Robber Suspected in 15 plus Robberies Nabbed

"Armed and dangerous" suspect was sought in 15 Gwinnett County robberies that began on Nov. 30. Norcross Police identified the suspect's car, leading to his arrest.

Gwinnett County Police have arrested a man they believe to be responsible for 15 armed robberies within Gwinnett County. Police requested help from the public and published a photograph of the suspect last week.

According to police, the suspect primarily targeted cell phone stores but has also robbed two appliance stores, a tobacco shop, and attempted a robbery at a Days Inn. Five of the robberies have occurred within city jurisdictions. Norcross Police, Lawrenceville Police and Lilburn Police investigated those incidents. Loganville police are also looking into possible connections between this suspect and an armed robbery at Partyland in Loganville on Dec. 15. The victim in that case described the suspect as a light-skinned black male, about 5 foot 9 to 5 foot 10, of medium build and with a goatee and moustache. At the time of the robbery, the suspect was wearing grey sweatpants and a dark pullover shirt and the weapon he brandished is described as a black handgun.

After Norcross Police identified the man's tags using surveillance footage, Gwinnett Police were able to narrow the list of suspects to just a few. Derrick Cage, 28, of Snellville was a close match to the physical description in the robberies. Detectives and several city agencies worked together to apprehend the suspect, who is now in the Gwinnett Detention Center.

The first robbery took place on Nov. 30. Frequently, the suspect visits the target location prior to the robbery posing as a customer. The suspect returns later to commit the armed robbery. On multiple occasions, he has been seen fleeing the scene in a silver 2006-2010 Dodge Charger with a sun roof and stock chrome wheels.

In Norcross, three cell phones stores have recently been robbed using this method. The Sprint Store at 6000 Peachtree Industrial Blvd. was robbed at gunpoint on Dec. 21 and Celulares Latinos at 5942 Buford Highway was robbed on Dec. 22. A Boost Mobile store was also held up on Dec. 17.
