Police: Suspect in Counterfeit Money Case Throws French Fries at Officer

Three other men also were charged in connection to the incident.

Three men were charged with disorderly conduct and one man was charged with counterfeit money and obstruction Wednesday (Jan. 22) in Loganville after they led police on a chase and allegedly used the fake money at local stores.

According to the Loganville Police report, officers received a tip that two suspicious men who tried to pass a fake $100 bill at Jersey Mike's, TJ Maxx and Five Guys were at the burger establishment around 9:18 p.m.

When police arrived at the 4018 Atlanta Hwy. business and saw the two men sitting inside, one of them walked to the rear of the restaurant and the other remained seated.

The remaining suspect then started to walk out, so the officer told him to stop and asked why he was passing fake money. After the suspect looked over his shoulder, the officer said to have a seat, but instead, the suspect pushed the officer in the chest with both hands, threw a bag of French fries at him and ran.

The two ran on foot behind the Lowe's while the officer called for backup and the K9 unit. At one point, the suspect reached into the waistline of his pants, so, thinking there may be a weapon, the officer threatened to shoot if he continued.

"Go ahead and shoot me," the suspect said, according to the report.

They chase continued and the suspect jumped over a chain link fence and went into the woods. Backup and the K9 unit arrived, but they were not able to locate the suspect.

The Walton County Sheriff's Office assisted and stopped a Ford Excursion on Brand Road and GA 20 that had been described by the complainant as the suspect's vehicle. The three occupants in the car and Ronald Benning, the first man to leave Five Guys, were all transported to the Loganville Police Department.

All of them except the driver were arrested. They include:

  • Ramarland Benning, 28, of Riverdale, charged with disorderly conduct;
  • Johnta Rosser, 31, of Atlanta, charged with disorderly conduct;
  • and Ronald Benning 33, of Riverdale, charged with disorderly conduct.
The man who ran away from police was Ramond Benning, 32, also of Riverdale. Police were informed that Benning had tendered a fake $50 bill at Five Guys, so they obtained a warrant for him on obstruction and counterfeit money charges.
