Police Identify Craigslist Scammer

Snellville Police suspect a person in New York was behind a recent car scam using the Atlanta Craigslist site.

detectives say they have identified a suspect involved in the use of Craisglist to sell ficticious vehicles.

On February 21, police say they identified the suspect as Kisha Dimonique Sperling, and then obtained a full extradition warrant to charge Sperling with theft by deception in a "Craigslist Car Sale" scam.

Police believe that Sperling worked with other individuals to pull off the car scam, and advertised a fictitious vehicle for sale -- far less than its true value -- through the Atlanta Craigslist site.

A victim answered the advertisement and was then sent spoof emails alleging the sale was guaranteed through the popular online selling site eBay. The victim was then instructed to send a money transfer through Western Union to the suspect in New York. When the victim never received the vehicle, the incident was reported to the .

With cooperation of Western Union, investigators were able to identify the suspect. Police believe this type of scam is common throughout Georgia, as well as the United States.
