Overnight Fire in Gwinnett Destroys Loganville Home

Neighbors credited with alerting sleeping homeowner of the danger, enabling her to get out of the home before it became fully engulfed.

Gwinnett County firefighters battled an overnight fire on Lake Valley Drive in Loganville that totally destroyed a two-story home. It also caused radiant heat damage to the two adjacent homes. The houses are in the unincorporated area of Gwinnett County.

According to a press release from Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services, firefighters arrived at 3:42 a.m. to find heavy smoke and flames showing from the home. The quick actions of neighbors in alerting the sleeping homeowner is being credited with helping ensure that nobody was injured. Just after the homeowner was able to get out of the house, it was reportedly completely overtaken by the fire. Firefights battled from the outside to bring the fire under control.

Fire officials report that the homeowners in the two adjoining homes were able to return to their homes immediately, but the Red Cross was called to assist the one displaced adult female from the home that was a total loss.

GCF&ES public information officer Lt. Eric Eberly said the fire originated in the garage and appears to be accidental. However, the cause is underdertmined at this time and still under investigation.
