The recognition is due in part to the new Kitchen Fire Simulator the department is now using to educate the public about the dangers of fire in the kitchen. It along with other in depth prevention programs used by the department has reduced the number of fire calls and has led to saving potential lives and property from fire. MFD has made the simulator available to education people in neighborhoods, at schools and churches and other civic organizations.

Captain Jack Armstrong the Fire & Life Safety Officer of the department received the award on behalf of the department.
