Tribute Ride Planned Following Cyclist's Memorial Service

Cyclists are encouraged to wear cycling attire to the memorial service for Mark Jidov, the cyclist killed on Broadnax Mill Road last month, and to participate in a Tribute Ride that will follow.

Friends and family of , the , are inviting the cycling community to participate in a 30-35-mile Memorial Ride today following the service. An e-mail from Harvey Blanco of and TaNisha Brown conveyed the message to the cycling community on behalf of Jidov's family. Brown and Blanco were instrumental in getting the county to erect in time for Jidov's Memorial Service.

"Mark’s family has reached out to the cycling community for a show of support. This Sunday, to honor a fellow cyclist, we would like to encourage all of you to attend his memorial service in your riding attire," the e-mail reads. "Directly after the memorial we will depart as a group from Victory Baptist Church to ride the normal Sunday route. (30-35 miles-no drop, All area are cyclists are welcomed and encouraged to join the ride).

"Many of you may not have known Mark on a personal level, but you knew him when you saw him on that bike – , orange safety vest, black socks, short black shorts and pleasant spirit," the e-mail continues. "Mark deserves this tribute, even if you weren't fortunate enough to have had the chance to ride with him. Let us celebrate his life together by showing our sense of community as cyclists."
