UPDATE: Manhunt Under Way Following Armed Robbery Attempt at Loganville Walmart

UPDATE: Fugitive escaped to Dekalb County before wrecking. Manhunt involving several agencies is under way in Dekalb County.

UPDATE: AS AT 6:10 p.m. there was no update on the manhunt. Loganville Police Chief Mike McHugh confirmed that the suspect is linked to an armed robbery at a Walton County convenience store on Tuesday.

Loganville Police Chief Mike McHugh said a fugitive who pulled a weapon on an employee at the Walmart in Loganville is currently being sought in Dekalb County by several agencies.

"He has warrants for several crimes, including armed robbery, weapons violations and aggravated assault, out of several jurisdictions including Walton County, Rockdale, Gwinnett and Dekalb County," McHugh said. "As luck would have it, he ended up in our Walmart here in Loganville."

McHugh said Loganville Police officers were originally called to Walmart on a shoplifting call, but the man had pulled a weapon on one of the Walmart employees. He then took off in a car, pursued by law enforcement officers from several agencies, including the City of Loganville, Walton County Sheriff's Office, Rockdale County Sheriff's Office and Dekalb County Sheriff's Office.

"That ended when he wrecked the car just inside Dekalb County," McHugh said, adding no police vehicles were involved in the wreck. "We did apprehend the female passenger in the car, but the male took off running into the woods."

McHugh said a manhunt is currently under way in Dekalb County in the area of Pleasant Hill Road involving several agencies as well as canines and a helicopter. McHugh said he does not have the name of the individual at this time but he is described as a white male who was born in 1980. He was wearing a black shirt.
